Mentoring projects is a tough job!
We understand project management as a discipline - that is - it is a subject requiring some common sense knowledge and competence thru basic principles, best practices & standard procedures that can be taught/learnt thru formal instruction - otherwise it is experiential data gained by years of hard experience.
In essence Project Management gives structure & method to any complex endeavor that would otherwise be mired in chaos, it's like herding cats as they say .....
And mentoring project manager wannabe's (project control engineers included) is something else. How do you standby (grit your teeth!) and let your protege (mentee?) make mistakes galore while waiting just for the right time to tell him how to do it right/correct it?
Yes thats a prime prerequisite for a Mentor - patience, patience & more patience.
It is all that and a bit more rather than just the technicalities of project management (planning, monitoring & control of activities/tasks) as we shall soon describe in this blog .....
